Batam City has immense potential as a key driver of the national economy, particularly as an international logistics hub. Its strategic location in a major trading area makes Batam highly attractive for investment.

Investment Potential in Batam

The Batam City Government focuses not only on increasing investment volume but also prioritizes quality and accelerating licensing processes. Beyond complete licensing documents, Batam also promotes transparency and active communication, ensuring that obstacles can be addressed promptly. This responsiveness is a crucial strategy in building investor confidence and fostering a conducive investment climate.

Improving Infrastructure to Support Investment

Infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting investment, aiming to provide a multiplier effect for the Batam community. This includes roads, airports, ports, and Special Economic Zones (KEKs). One major project is the construction of Terminal II at Hang Nadim International Airport. This terminal is built on land that is part of a 1,763-hectare Aerocity and is projected to serve up to 8 million passengers annually in its initial phase. Besides the passenger terminal, this area will also encompass logistics, business, and aviation industry facilities.

Direct Shipping Service Batam–China

Another strategic step in enhancing export-import connectivity is the opening of a direct shipping service between Batam and China. Via the MV Ever Core departing from Batu Ampar Port (April 29th), Batam is now a direct connecting port without going through Singapore. This significantly reduces operational costs and shipping time. This service is a crucial part of strengthening the export-import logistics system in Batam.

Other advantages of Batam City with its existing potential means it can absorb local labor, generate state foreign exchange earnings through various manufacturing industries such as machinery, electronics, electrical equipment, computer software, information technology network services, electronic components, vehicle spare parts, and service industries, including logistics.

BP (Batam Investment Agency) recorded that in Quarter III of 2024, Singapore was the country with the highest investment value at Rp 1.91 trillion. Other countries such as China invested Rp 1.69 trillion. Previously, in 2024, the target was Rp 40 trillion; this year, the investment realization target is Rp 60 trillion.

America as Batam's Export Destination

The United States remains one of the main export destinations from Batam City. Based on the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Batam's exports to the United States in March 2025 reached US$ 490.34 million, recording a 40.39% increase compared to February 2025 and growing 21% year-on-year compared to March 2024.

This significant increase reflects the positive and continuous growth trend of Batam's export sector to the American market, and demonstrates the competitiveness of local products in the global arena.

Exports from Batam to America are dominated by commodities such as machinery, electrical equipment, sea vessels, and aircraft engines. Currently, despite challenges from the Trump-era trade war, Batam has prepared strategies to ensure exports remain competitive.
